Strange Boy

I knew this boy once when we were 8 years old and in 2nd grade. He was a little chubby, big eyes, wide teeth. He kissed me on the cheek one day just like that. I asked what was that for and he said "Because you're beautiful". To me a kiss from a boy is nothing. I was not beautiful in 2nd grade. I had my hair cut like Aiza Seguerra's because my Nana and Mommy loved Aiza. So I moved on.

On 3rd grade he was no longer my classmate but we were just 1 classroom apart. He told me again that I'm beautiful and that I should love him. I liked him then.

My friend until now who was a transfer student in 3rd grade was his first love/first girlfriend since pre-school. I don't know, maybe the school they used to go to was too advanced. But on 3rd grade he told me that he hated her and that he loves me only. I don't know what happened to them. One afternoon he passed by my classroom, handed my classmate something and asked her to give it to me. My classmate was laughing like she was mad. She handed the thing to me and told me it was me on the funny picture. I looked at it, but the girl on the edited picture was not me, it was my friend.

Maybe it was a proof that he likes me. As kids,we didn't know what "love means", but we used that word a lot. I still didn't understand those gestures. In the afternoon when I go to the library, he follows me there. He sat across me and when he thinks no one was looking, he would hold my hand. I wonder where he got that. He was too young. Michael, that was his name. He calls me sometimes at night. My brother used to tease me. For a young age I have a"caller". I don't know what happened but I forgot about Michael and whatever happened to "us" later. He transferred school after 6th grade.

Today, I found out from my best friend that he killed himself yesterday, shot a gun through his head because he and his girlfriend broke up, or maybe the girl broke up with him after 7 years of being in their relationship and he was not able to take it. It was just 2 weeks ago when I told my husband about him. Weird. I really don't understand that boy Michael.

I was wondering what he was thinking that time when he was holding the gun on his hand. Maybe he thought that the girlfriend will regret it, that she will forever be miserable because he died for her love.

Wherever you are Michael. I hope it was worth it. People will move on. She will move on.
