Of all the places I have been to in my country, Leyte holds a special place in my heart. I first went there when I was 10 with my Nana (nanny)who's still with us even now. She lives in Leyte and she always visit her home every May. To get away from my daddy, my mommy encourages me to take summer breaks far from home, so I went with my Nana and spent my happiest and unforgetful summers in Leyte. I had my first motorcycle accident there when I was 16. I have a scar beside my right eye for that.
I met my first love when I was 10 and he was 15 in Leyte. I thought he was the most good looking boy I've ever seen in person. I love his teeth and teeth are one of my fetish. A guy must have a good set of teeth for me to really really like him. He was really something and I shall never forget about him. The day before we left, I gave him my address and he gave me his so we could write each other letters. I wrote him once but never received 1 from him so I never wrote back again.
Years passed just like other stories, and I didn't go back there until I was 16. When I came back after 6 years, he was no longer there. They told me he's in Manila and had 2 kids, now he's got 4.
He crossed my mind every May. Finally when the year came that everyone in this country had a cell phone, we were able to communicate. I was already in college and he called. My BFF who was also his cousin gave him my number. I was wondering why he sounded really pissed. I asked and he said because I never replied to his 4 letters. I told him I never got one. For awhile we texted and called until I got a text message from the mother of his children to stop texting him. So we stopped, then I got married, got pregnant and he was surprised about it. The last text message I got from him was the day of my wedding. He said "Pardz, imu first lakang sa simbahan, para sa akoa ha?" I told him that it was a civil wedding and not church. That was it.
I went back to Leyte when I was 23 years old and 4 months pregnant with Dean, my youngest. First love was still in Manila but he visits most of the time, we were just not meant to see each other again. This evening, while I was thinking what to write in this blog, I was looking for his name on Facebook and I saw his pictures. He wasn't as good looking as he was then. I have moved on. LOL
